Are you struggling with acne problems? It is normal for people of all ages to suffer from this. But never fear! Every problem has a solution.

What matters is the types of food you consume. Junk food can hurt your immune system and make it more difficult to fight infections, like the bacteria that causes acne. You can get all the nutrients your body needs from a healthy variety of foods such as lean proteins, fruits and vegetables and whole grains. Your skin will benefit as you keep your body healthy.

Water is the only beverage that can truly quench your thirst. Drinks that contain sugar and caffeine won’t quench your thirst. Make your own juice if you don’t care for water. Homemade juice is not only good on a nutritional level, because it doesn’t have as much sugar as the commercial varieties, it is also great for the skin.

You may also consider looking into the supplement maca. This substance, which is most often consumed in powder form, naturally creates balance within the body without unpleasant side effects. It is important that you research any new supplement carefully before using. If you decide it is safe to take maca, then proceed slowly so you can carefully gauge its effect on your health.

Cleansing is very important, but you should always use a gentle cleanser. Products that use strong chemicals can dry your skin, and that can have a detrimental effect on your skin’s health and appearance. Tea tree oil is one example of a gentle yet effective cleaning ingredient that has an anti-bacterial action.

Using a natural antibacterial agent, such as garlic, to get rid of acne can help clear up your skin much more quickly. Watch your eyes when doing this and make sure you wash off all the pulp to avoid its irritating effects.

To shrink and tighten pores, apply an all natural mask of green clay. It also gets rid of you skin’s extra oils. Make sure you rinse off the mask completely. Use a small soft cloth to dry your skin, and then apply some witch hazel in order to take away the remaining residue.

Your skin’s condition is greatly affected by the amount of stress in your life. Infection is more rampant when you’re stressed, and your skin’s natural balance will be ruined because of it. The less stressed you are, the nicer your skin will look!

A little forethought and consistency can get you big results when it comes to skin care. Use these tips on a regular basis to improve your skin. Simply clean your skin daily, and apply a mask to get a beautiful, bright complexion.

For someone with moderate to severe acne on their face and back, having their picture taken or being in front of large groups of people can cause panic and a loss of confidence. Fortunately, these tips and tricks for controlling acne are sure to leave your face and body clear, smooth, and free from acne.

Blackheads

Using face-wash or an acne scrub can reduce the amount of dirt within your pores. Scrubbing out the dirt can prevent the development of blackheads and indirectly prevent your face from developing acne. Along with face wash, utilizing a clean, non-greasy towel to wipe your face is also advised, as it’s counter intuitive to wipe a clean face with a dirty towel.

As tempting as it can be, avoid trying to remove blackheads and pimples by poking and prodding at your face. Squeezing and rupturing acne breakouts, can lead to further irritation and even infection. Picking can also push germs and debris further down into the pore and may eventually cause scarring. It is much better to treat your acne by using medication and then letting nature run its course.

One of the things that you can do in order to lessen the chances of experiencing acne is by avoiding excessive use of oil based makeup. Makeup contributes to clogging skin pores which then produce blackheads and pimples. If you need to wear makeup be sure that it is water-based.

Wear comfortable clothing that isn’t tight fitting. Clothing that is tight can put pressure on your skin and cause rubbing. Avoid bra straps that are too tight. This can cause acne, like blackheads and pimples, on your skin. Wear clothes that are lose fitting and that will keep you cool.

When trying to get rid of acne, it is great to use a facial scrub that has beads or some type of rougher material. This will drag the dirt and build up out of your pores, reducing and eventually eliminating blackheads. Don’t let acne run your life, use the right acne products.

Do NOT pop your pimples! Don’t pick at them, don’t pull off scabs, and don’t pop blackheads. Damaging the skin can allow the bacteria to move from pore to pore, causing more pimples and leaving scars behind. If you have a stubborn pimple which is driving you nuts then visit a dermatologist and ask him to lance it for you.

A good cleansing regimen is key in treating acne. It is very important to carefully cleanse your face twice a day, in the morning and evening. Spend a bit of time at it, and be detailed. Work your cleansing pad well into areas where blackheads are most likely to develop. Always make sure to use the right cleanser for your skin type, and use a moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated.

Instead of allowing acne to take over your life, why not use the advice in this article as a starting point for clearer and more toned skin? Follow these tips and tricks and you will begin to notice that your skin is developing an improved appearance, texture, and more even coloration.

Some acne sufferers are willing to go to the ends of the earth in order to clear their skin. People try everything from harsh chemical peels to laser resurfacing procedures that can be expensive and even dangerous. Are they any other alternatives? Read the tips below and find out how to fight acne.

Smoking

Drink water. It helps to assist with your digestive system. The toxins that can cause acne are generally produced by your liver because it is overloaded with toxins from smoking or stress. Water helps to act as a cleansing agent as it purges your body of the potential harmful elements.

Here is another reason not to smoke! Smoking affects pimples or acne breakouts! When a smoker exhales the smoke, it will travel up to their face, which can cause pimples to become more pronounced and make acne spread. A doctor may be able to help someone stop smoking.

Try to avoid bad habits that include sun tanning, smoking or consuming too many beverages that contain a lot of sugar. All these habits enable too many bad things to start accumulating on your skin and therefore increasing the chance of causing bacteria to become blocked in your pores or hair follicles.

Quit smoking. Smoking can bring toxins and poison into your body that your liver cannot necessarily process. The secondary route for getting rid of the toxins is through your pores; toxins and oils on your skin promote infection by bacteria, and thereby encourage the creation of acne. By quitting smoking you not only help your lungs, but also your skin.

One quick way to cut down on acne outbreaks and increase your overall general health is to quit smoking. A study done in Germany in 2001 showed that acne was 62% more prevalent in people who were active smokers versus non-smokers. The smoke adds a layer of pore-clogging gook to your facial skin.

Cigarettes are unhealthy anyway for many reasons, but they have also been associated with acne and breakouts. Now is the best time to quit smoking, not later. Cigarettes also create wrinkles and ruin your complexion overall. So now is the best time to quit smoking in order to maintain a healthy face and prevent acne.

Professional procedures have been proven to work, but they cost a lot and can inflict a lot of harm on your skin in some cases. Instead of going the surgical route or spending a ton of money to treat your skin, be sure that you’re using the tips you’ve read in this article to fight your acne. You’ll be glad you did.

Do Birth Control Pills Help Your Acne?
By Wong Darren

Since birth control pills or oral contraceptives are popular with many people, there just might be a chance that this approach to treating acne might gain ground. Does it work? There’s only one way to find out.

When to Use Birth Control Pills?

The pill helps to even out the irregular flow levels of your estrogens and progesterone. You will want to use birth control pills if:

1) You regularly engage in sex with one or more partners and need oral contraceptives.

2) You regulate your monthly cycle through oral hormonal therapy.

3) You are taking the anti-acne drug Accutane.

The pill alone is all that’s needed by women who have mild acne and need oral contraceptive protection at the same time. Acne that is moderate to severe requires stronger treatment measures – an oral contraceptive which can be used in tandem with either topical or oral acne therapies.

Alternative Contraceptive Methods Against Acne

If for moral or religious grounds you are unwilling to take the pill or switch to other contraceptive methods, you may want to consider other curative options such as anti-androgens or physical therapy.

The other methods of hormonal contraception like the birth control patches and rings affect acne differently and can sometimes aggravate it. Depo-Provera, a contraceptive injectable which contains synthetic progesterone, can even initiate a severe acne breakout from time to time.

Accutane (isotretinoin) is a very potent anti-acne preparation that has been linked to severe birth deformities. Women undergoing Accutane treatment are often prescribed birth control pills to stop pregnancy from occurring. Apart from abstaining from sex, the first line of defense in birth control for women taking Accutane is the pill.

Taking birth control pills for acne treatment has its share of advantages and disadvantages. Be on the safe side. Seek your doctor’s advice to know what is the right pill for you.

How Does Birth Control Pills Work on Acne Control?

The role of birth control pills in acne treatment is to keep androgens from affecting the oil glands. The pills contain estrogen which regulates the female’s monthly cycle to discourage ovulation. Apart from inhibiting ovulation, estrogens help treat acne by:

1) Decreasing the release of free testosterone or androgen from the ovary

2) Preventing the released free testosterone from stimulating the oil glands to manufacture and release excess oil.

Estrogens can diminish the rising amount of androgen in your system by releasing great amounts of SHBG proteins that “capture” and stick to the androgens, preventing them from stimulating the oil glands to release excess oil that triggers acne.

The most effective oral contraceptives in the treatment of acne are the ones that have estrogen and progestin, a man-made progesterone, working in tandem. The standalone progestin pill, also known as the minipill, is a good oral contraceptive with less adverse reactions. The more recent progestins have the capability to show great improvements against acne.

I have not heard about your water supply being a potential problem for acne, but the article written by Theodore seems to make sense. What do you think?

Your Water Supply and Acne
By Theodore Michaels

Everyday, a countless number of people wake up to find that they are suffering from yet another acne breakout. What’s puzzling is that these same people take good care of their skin. They cleanse it two times a day, apply topical acne medication, sunscreen, and finally a moisturizer. The hidden culprit that eludes most is their home’s water supply. Water makes contact with your skin on a daily basis. Hence, there is little question that it may be contributing to your breakouts.

Water type is divided into two categories: hard water and soft water. The first refers to water that has a significant mineral contact. Minerals including Calcium are prevalent in such water. Soft water, on the other hand, has negligible mineral content. The minerals are instead replaced with higher concentrations of sodium.

Water that is overly enriched with minerals presents a number of damaging effects to the skin and other surfaces which it comes into contact with. When hard water combines with soap, it forms soap scum. What it should do is form a lather as to cleanse the skin. This soap scum remains on the skin and consequently irritates it. If your home receives hard water, you should see soap scum on your bathroom fixtures and in and around the shower area.

Soft water combines with soap to form a lather that ultimately cleanses your skin. Those who have grown up with it’s mineral-rich may complain of a “slippery” feeling after cleansing their skin. Soft water removes the soap scum buildup on your skin – the one that the hard water was supposed to remove.

There are some who refuse to believe that soft water is a more efficient solvent than hard water. Perhaps we can explore how well both types of water function in different applications. In dishwashers, for instance, hard water tends to etch the dishes. This can be extremely frustrating, especially after investing hundreds of dollars towards a new set. Soft water does not cause this etching effect as it effectively cleans the detergent off the dishes.

You can take some immediate, non-drastic steps to reduce the negative effects of hard water. First, replace your shower fixtures on a regular basis. Mineral buildup within these fixtures may be further increasing the hardness of the water. It is also advisable to avoid taking hot showers unless necessary. The steam will open your pores and allow the minerals within the hard water to seep within. This will cause breakouts.

A more expensive solution involves installing a water softener within your home. It can be a big investment, however you will benefit in a multitude of ways. If you find that the aforementioned tips improve the appearance of your skin, hard water may be aggravating your skin. A water filtration device can not only soften your water, but remove additives such as Chlorine. Chlorine can be extremely aggravating to the skin, and will indeed cause acne. It strips oils off your face, which ultimately irritates it. Again, this is a significant investment so all the factors need to be considered carefully.

Acne care to a large extent is being proactive about treating the lesions, swelling and scarring that is associated with the onset of acne outbreaks.Since acne is most visible as blackheads, whiteheads, redness and swelling around the lesions or skin pores where the bacteria known as P. acnes is congregated, appropriate acne care must be targeted to eliminating the physical signs. Perhaps just as importantly, the best way to treat the lesions associated with acne is to prevent them from occurring. A combination of treatment methods is often the most successful practice, but your dermatologist should be consulted to determine your best treatment regimen. It is important to take action and to follow the instructions of the medical professional rather than hoping that you will outgrow the problem.

Importance of Action

Regardless of the type of acne that you have diagnosed, taking action to begin the process of healing is important. Prompt and aggressive acne care is more likely to provide positive results. The big guns don’t have to be brought to bear against a mild outbreak of acne, but you should take note of it and use appropriate measures to limit its severity and spread. In this way, you are less likely to find the need of more extensive treatment in the future. Acne doesn’t have to be a nightmare of embarrassment and discomfort.

Daily Cleansing Routine

No matter what type of acne you have developed, a daily cleansing routine should be part of your acne care practices. A mild product that will gently remove oil, dirt and dead skin cells from the surface of the skin will help to improve skin health. The cleansing agent should not contain abrasives. A product that contains salicylic acid is a good direction to go for positive results. Salicylic acid helps to reduce excess secretions from the sebaceous glands so that blockage of the follicle is eliminated. This occurs without excess drying of the skin.

Medications

Acne care that works is improved by various types of medications. There are oral medications and topical medications that are given quite commonly to reduce the population of acne related bacteria. Usually, topical medications are prescribed for many types of acne that are mild to moderate in severity or that are sporadic in appearance. On the other hand, oral antibiotics may be necessary when the acne symptoms are severe or long lasting so that they are resistant to less aggressive treatments. The purpose of most medical and light treatments is to deal with the bacteria level to make the acne outbreaks less likely.

Surgical Intervention

Finally, if there are still residual effects such as scars or thickened skin as a result of acne, you can expand the acne care to remove scars with the use of surgical techniques. These methods can include dermabrasion or cosmetic surgery. The procedures are usually done on an outpatient basis by qualified dermatologists or cosmetic surgeons. The cost and the complexity of the procedure will depend upon the severity of the acne condition and type of procedure selected. This type of procedure is usually chosen to help improve the appearance, which in turn is a boost to the self esteem.

There are many strange things that people will try to do in order to try to cure their acne. Matthew writes about the possibility of using egg yolk to cure acne. An interesting concept, but I don’t think that it is for me.

Does the Egg Yolk Acne Cure Really Work?

I first ran across this egg yolk acne cure while doing a google search for acne remedies or something of that sort. I first looked at it and thought it was someone just trying to make a quick buck by selling some quack system. Unlike other systems I have tried and recommend, this system had little scientific validation and seemed to me to be an old wives tale.

The process goes something like this:

You get an egg yolk, a half cup of milk, and one cup of flour. Man it sounds like we are about to make a cake, but sadly no we are getting rid of acne. A few other ingredients such as lime and vinegar are also encouraged.

After speaking with several people who actually tried the egg yolk acne cure method, I found that results were mixed. About 70% of the people said they had a positive experience with this type of treatment. I guess we really would need to define exactly what “positive experience” means, but for now we will just say it was a moderate success.

The only thing that worries me about this method is that it has reports of being painful, and you have to leave the mask on for one hour a day, five days a week. This seems excessive, and would not fit in well with a lot of peoples schedules. If you do have the time I would say give this method an honest try, and do not give up. Some of the people I talked to said it may take at least 2 months before you see a real effect.

In my opinion that is the only problem, the results are so slow! What if there was a faster method of getting rid of acne, would you be interested?

Many people may have heard of blackheads, but what causes blackheads? Michael has written an article below to help you understand the causes of blackheads.

The Cause of Blackheads

There are a lot of factors, which causes blackheads. Our genes are given primary importance in this case. If a family member from the previous generation suffered from acne, your chances of acquiring acne become quite high. The medical term assigned to the blackheads is known as an open comedo. The excess oil produced by the sebaceous glands blocks the pores and propionibacterium grows in the company of excess oil, thus accumulating all the ingredients, which causes acne. This results in inflammation of the skin and the much-dreaded pimple takes shape. When the oil reacts with the oxygen present in the air, it goes through the process of oxidization and becomes dark in color and that is why it is termed as blackheads. The sebaceous glands get quite active during puberty and starts to produce oils. The adrenal glands produces a male hormone, which is found in both men and women, helps in fuelling the sebaceous gland.

The causes for acne formation are not the same for everybody. It differs from person to person. It is a general notion that the food consumed by us plays a major role in causing acne. Although it has not been proved scientifically yet, but many people are very hypersensitive when it comes to food. Food remains a debatable issue in the subject of acnes. Those who possess a dark skin tone can heave a sigh of relief as these type of skin are less prone to severe forms of acne. The components present in your cosmetic are largely responsible or attracting blackheads. It is imperative to check the components of your cosmetics before making any purchase and you should strictly avoid products containing isopropyl esters, cocoa butter, potassium chloride, wheat gram oil, etc and never get products which are meant for oily skin as they just aggravate your blackheads.

Have you been dealing with a lot of stress at school or office, and are you blaming it for the embarrassing acne? If your answer is a resounding yes, then stop doing so as stress can only intensify the acne, it is no way responsible for the cause of blackheads. A sunscreen lotion should always be applied, as sunburns will worsen the conditions of blackheads. The climatic conditions of a particular location might cause blackheads as the production of oil increases in the hot weather and also cause dryness to the skin and aggravate the blackhead as whenever the skin becomes overtly dry, the body reacts by boosting the production of oil.

It is probable that most of us will have to deal with some type of skin problem in our lives. Because skin problems can cause discomfort and even embarrass us, they should not make us hide ourselves away from the rest of the world. Acne and eczema are the two more common skin disorders that are known.

Acne is mostly found in teenagers, although it is very common among adults as well. It is said that one out of every four adults will have to go through acne blemishes at some point in their life. However, many wander what really causes these outbreaks.

Acne can be due to many different factors that include hormones, heredity, stress, and medications. It is important to know that acne is not caused by any one factor alone. Many people believe that people with acne are not clean or they eat too much grease or fat. However this is just a myth.

The fact is that acne has nothing to do with your lifestyle or your skin’s origin. When oil gets trapped below the surface of your skin, it can cause bacteria to start multiplying. This is what will usually cause your skin to become irritated while developing pimples and blemishes.

What can we do to fight an unwelcome skin disorder? First of all we need to recommend that you wash your skin once or twice a day with a good cleanser. You need to stay away from cleansers that contain harsh acids because this will only irritate your skin further. To avoid irritation you should never scrub your face. It is best to use only your fingertips when you are washing and this will limit the sensitivity in your skin and keep your pores clean.

Another problem with the skin is eczema. This will intrude upon 15 million Americans and eczema can show up in a many ways. It is usually going to appear as a dry patch of skin that is red and irritated and it can also lead to cracking, itching, blisters, and seeping sores.

Eczema is known to be a hereditary condition but it can also be brought on by other reasons. There are things like irritants such as colognes, perfumes, detergents, soaps, household chemicals, and of course stress can bring on the eczema symptoms.

You may wander how you can combat this disorder. The first thing is to avoid any potential triggers like any of the above. Prevention is the best medicine for most skin conditions, and eczema is no exception to the rule. If you already have eczema, you should not get upset. There are many creams and ointments that are going to help treat the symptoms of it.

The best advice for any skin problem is to get help forms a good dermatologist. The professional help will have the skills and the tools that are needed to address and treat your skin the right way. Also you can regain your confidence and get back to a normal life without worrying about your skin breaking out.

Oily skin is not fun to have. It can show up to be thick and dull looking with coarse pores and pimples forming. This is due to the oil glands of the skin and that they are overactive and oil will build up in the skin. This will make it more assessable to forming blackheads. The skin will look to have a greasy shine to it and this will make it look coarse. Many do not have oily skin and instead they have combination skin, which means that in some areas it may be dry or just normal in others. Oily skin does have its disadvantages and the main one is that it will age slower than other skin types.

Because of the dry skin, genetics will be more at play in the case of oily skin. There are other things that will contribute to oily skin conditions and they will include diet, hormones, cosmetics, pregnancy, contraceptives and environmental conditions like hotter and humid climates. Because the levels of hormones are high, especially testosterone, this will make the oil glands over active, oily skin is going to be more noticeable in the teenage years. The same reason will be for oily skin conditions in women that are pregnant or in menopause.

There are regular cleansing routines with hot water and soap that is needed to prevent oil build up and clogging of skin pores. You need to be careful that you do not use harsh soaps and other products that will make your skin dry. If you are using dehydrating products on the skin, the upper layer will go dry and shrink. This will result in the obstruction with the flow of oil through the pores. The result is going to clogging of the pores.

You need to wash the skin with hot water that is comfortable for you. Hot water will dissolve the oil better. Do not use cleansing creams. You need to go for an antibacterial cleansing lotion or a mild medicated soap to do this. When you are done cleaning, treat the skin with a natural and oil free moisturizer.

If your skin is too oily, and you are under the age of thirty, you should do four cleanings a day and use little or no moisturizer after cleansing. Use your fingers to massage your face while you are cleansing.

A clay or mud mask will help you to take care of the oily conditions of the skin. For sensitive skin, white or rose colored clays are better to use as a mask. Before putting on makeup, a woman may want to use antiseptic day cream that will reduce the activity of oil glands.

There are diets that are high in protein but are going to lack the sugar, fluids and salt that are recommended for anyone with oily skin problems. Eating vegetables and fruits are defiantly going to help you. You especially want the ones that are rich in vitamin B2. These will be whole grains, beans, nuts, and royal jelly. You should use minimum oil in your diet and stay away from alcohol, soda, sugar filled drinks, chocolate and many other junk food items. You need to talk to your doctor or dermatologist about your skin conditions and find out what is best for you.
