Some people might tell you that acne is an inevitable affliction of adolescence. Not only can acne strike at any time of life, though, it is far from inevitable. While the problem has many possible causes, you are in luck! The breadth of potential solutions available to you is even wider. Below is some information relating to acne and medication.

If you are a woman who is having difficulty controlling acne breakouts, speak to your doctor about the possibility of taking birth control pills to help your skin. This medication contains hormones that lower your body’s production of oil. However, it is typically only taken as a last result, so try other methods first as there are side effects associated with all medications.

Go to a dermatologist, if you have severe acne! The doctor will prescribe both ointment and internal prescription medication. This is your best option in clearing up severe outbreaks of acne. There are many great prescription medications available, so consult your physician and see what his or her opinion is.

Oral antibiotics such as tetracycline, minocin, doxycycline and erythromycin are used when acne includes many cystic lesions and/or inflammatory papules. The medications are often taken at regular intervals for about three months, depending on the patient, before they are tapered off. Stopping the medication too early may result in a relapse.

If you are trying to figure out the cause of your acne, you may want to look toward your acne medication. Many prescription medications, especially those that contain hormones, can cause acne to form of become worse. If your acne is bad, ask your doctor about switching medications to one that will not cause acne.

For severe cases of acne, talk to your doctor about isotretinoin. Isotretinoin is a prescription oral medication, and it has been shown to be extremely effective in helping skin get clear and stay clear. There are serious side effects associated with the medication, particularly for pregnant women, so careful consideration is needed to determine whether this is the right course of action for you.

Don’t be too quick to try the latest acne medication. Over the counter acne medications are designed to treat acne, but work much differently from one person to the next. You don’t want to be too quick to find out that the latest treatment is only going to give you worse acne.

Choosing an over-the-counter acne medication can make your head spin. Get suggestions from friends, try different products and remember that just because it costs more does not mean it works better. Try out several different products and see what works for you. What works for your best friend may not work for you. Trial and error is the best way to find a product you love and clears your skin.

When trying a new acne medication, a common mistake is to give up before it gets a chance to start working. It may take a few weeks before a product’s effectiveness is apparent. However, if you’ve tried several over-the-counter acne products for weeks at a time and your pimples still haven’t cleared up, it may be time to try other preventative measures.

Do not pop your pimples! Squeezing and popping them can cause much irritation and spreading of oils. This can cause the spread of more acne and also severe scarring. Be patient and let the acne go alone after using medication. It can be difficult to wait for them to go away on their own but it will be best in the long run for getting rid of your acne.

Clearing up acne can be fairly simple if you take it up with your doctor. He/she may prescribe medication that can help. By changing your diet, you can also stop the outbreak of acne. Simple things such as changing how much sugar is in your diet, or drinking more water, can be very beneficial to stopping an acne outbreak.

These acne treatments might be just the ticket for dealing with your particular case. Feel free to try them singly or in combination with each other. Acne varies widely from person to person, and the key to defeating your acne problem may be a unique one. Never fear, though: There is an effective acne solution out there for everyone.

Means to Deal With Acne During Pregnancy
By Stella Hudson

Acne is a skin disease that is common common during pregnancy. It sometimes starts during the first trimester. However, it may also appear during other stages of pregnancy. Acne generally develops in the form of spots, cysts and blackheads during pregnancy and seems on the face, chest and back areas of the body.

Thankfully enough, there are numerous medications that may be used to deal with acne when you’re pregnant. There are pregnant. There are topical anti acne medicines such as Clindamycin and erythromycin that may be applied in the form of skin creams.

You should stay away from a few medications for the treatment of acne during pregnancy. Common examples among these include oral and topical retinoids, such as isotretinoin, tretinoin and adapalene, which typically cause malformed fetuses.

Acne may also be treated during pregnancy thru natural treatments. The most common natural possibility is to delicately rub ice on the acne-infected skin surfaces. Another easily available option is Aloe Vera juice that can be applied externally to the influenced regions. Yet one more care is the applying of a mixture of rose water and lemon juice skin. A mixture of cinnamon powder and honey can also be really beneficial to cure acne in this period. Additionally, a paste of milk and turmeric and sandalwood powders can be also be of great help.

A rigorously selected dosage of vitamins taken frequently is a very safe method to deal with acne during pregnancy. Vitamin A supplement can be used to good effect. Vitamin B5 is helpful to control dangerous skin discharges and thus reduce acne abrasions. Vitamins C and E are robust antioxidants and help eliminate skin inflammation. Chromium controls skin infection by melting sugars that play a catalyst role in the development of acne. Zinc is another useful option to heal acne infections and restore the spoiled skin.

Using these vitamins alone would not be adequate. One also needs to follow a strict cleaning regime free to keep the skin free. Clean your skin twice a day in the morning and night. You could employ a peaceful anti acne cleanser for this purpose. In addition to using an anti acne cleaner, you might also use an oil absorbent microfiber fabric to clean the skin. This material scours away the OTT oils from the skin. Make sure that you chase up the cleaning of your skin with the application of a good oil free moisturizer. Also, try avoiding touching your acne and don’t over rub the acne area affected area as it can aggravate the infection.

Finally, you must drink lots of water daily. Water is the safest treatment option for acne during pregnancy. Likewise , you must exercise daily. It will help you get away with all the poisons that would excrete out in the form of sweat. Exercises increase the circulation of blood in the body so helping the skin to tone and become healthy.

Acne care to a large extent is being proactive about treating the lesions, swelling and scarring that is associated with the onset of acne outbreaks.Since acne is most visible as blackheads, whiteheads, redness and swelling around the lesions or skin pores where the bacteria known as P. acnes is congregated, appropriate acne care must be targeted to eliminating the physical signs. Perhaps just as importantly, the best way to treat the lesions associated with acne is to prevent them from occurring. A combination of treatment methods is often the most successful practice, but your dermatologist should be consulted to determine your best treatment regimen. It is important to take action and to follow the instructions of the medical professional rather than hoping that you will outgrow the problem.

Importance of Action

Regardless of the type of acne that you have diagnosed, taking action to begin the process of healing is important. Prompt and aggressive acne care is more likely to provide positive results. The big guns don’t have to be brought to bear against a mild outbreak of acne, but you should take note of it and use appropriate measures to limit its severity and spread. In this way, you are less likely to find the need of more extensive treatment in the future. Acne doesn’t have to be a nightmare of embarrassment and discomfort.

Daily Cleansing Routine

No matter what type of acne you have developed, a daily cleansing routine should be part of your acne care practices. A mild product that will gently remove oil, dirt and dead skin cells from the surface of the skin will help to improve skin health. The cleansing agent should not contain abrasives. A product that contains salicylic acid is a good direction to go for positive results. Salicylic acid helps to reduce excess secretions from the sebaceous glands so that blockage of the follicle is eliminated. This occurs without excess drying of the skin.

Medications

Acne care that works is improved by various types of medications. There are oral medications and topical medications that are given quite commonly to reduce the population of acne related bacteria. Usually, topical medications are prescribed for many types of acne that are mild to moderate in severity or that are sporadic in appearance. On the other hand, oral antibiotics may be necessary when the acne symptoms are severe or long lasting so that they are resistant to less aggressive treatments. The purpose of most medical and light treatments is to deal with the bacteria level to make the acne outbreaks less likely.

Surgical Intervention

Finally, if there are still residual effects such as scars or thickened skin as a result of acne, you can expand the acne care to remove scars with the use of surgical techniques. These methods can include dermabrasion or cosmetic surgery. The procedures are usually done on an outpatient basis by qualified dermatologists or cosmetic surgeons. The cost and the complexity of the procedure will depend upon the severity of the acne condition and type of procedure selected. This type of procedure is usually chosen to help improve the appearance, which in turn is a boost to the self esteem.

Treating acne is really the right move when you have it, but not at all times. There are stages in the life of a person when you should be careful about treating acne. During your pregnancy is one of these times. As we know, this is a delicate stage in a woman’s life and it is that phase of a woman’s life that she must show extra care for herself. When she feels the need of treating acne, she must see to it that she equips herself with the right information.

This must also be remembered by those who may also get pregnant. The following are some medications for acne that are not good for use during pregnancy for they are harmful for the fetus:

First is Hormonal therapy that may include estrogen, flutamide, and spirolactone. They are harmful and may lead to some problems for both the mother and the child.

Another one that would just put a pregnant woman’s life in danger is Isotretinoin. This has negative effects as well, especially for pregnant women or those that are breastfeeding. This could cause severe health hazards on both the mother and the fetus inside her womb. It is advised that a woman taking this must be monitored by the expert. Those who are trying to be pregnant must ignore the use of this for it may just trigger negative effects not only for you but most especially to your child.

Oral tetracycline’s which could be of doxycycline, tetracycline and minocycline, must not be an option at all for it would not do you any good. As tested and proven, pregnant women or those that are breastfeeding must ignore the use of this for it may just give those bad side effects that would nothing else be but a threat to your life and to your child. The topmost effect is permanent discoloration of teeth or bone disorders.

The last one to ignore is topical retinoids such as tazarotene, adapalene and tretinoin.

Just like the above-mentioned means, this could just be another hazard to you and your baby’s health. So, whether you are pregnant or not, it is not wise to use all these mentioned.

For all of you who would like to treat their acne but are pregnant, why must you risk your life and the life of your child just to have a prettier face?

There is due time for treating your acne with medications and during your pregnancy is not one of the safest times.

J Jones writes an article about antibiotics as a treatment for acne. It worked one time, but not the next. I personally was on antibiotics for 2 years and found that it did not work. I was not amused when the specialist told me that I had to go on antibiotics for a further 3 months before he would give me the next treatment. The following treatment was roaccutane, which did clear my acne, but had some heavy side affects (such as nose bleeds every day). Luckily there are so many alternatives to roaccutane and antibiotics these days.

Antibiotics Acne Treatment – What to Expect When Taking Oral Antibiotics For Acne by J Jones
Topical and oral antibiotics are a common acne treatment prescribed to many acne sufferers. Here’s how they treat acne and how effective they are.The main role of antibiotics for acne is to destroy the bacteria that clogs your pores and causes break outs. It doesn’t work on reducing oil production or unclogging pores they are there to kill off the bacteria in the skin.

It sounds simple and effective but it isn’t for everyone. For some people they work great and for others they have little or no effect. I’ve had 2 experiences with antibiotics used for acne and they were completely different.

My first time with antibiotics and acne was excellent and they cleared my acne up so well. I was taking them for about a year and when I stopped my acne returned but not as bad as it was before.

The second time I took an antibiotics acne treatment it was a completely different experience. They didn’t make a difference whatsoever. My doctor nor I could explain why the antibiotics for acne where great the first time round and not the second. It seems like my body built up a resistance to the antibiotics and became immune to their effects.

So if you’re considering using an antibiotics acne treatment, don’t pin all your hopes on it – it may work and it may not. You won’t know if they will clear your skin until you’ve tried taking them for the recommended 12 weeks

Tip: Make sure you take a probiotic when using antibiotics because they kill good and bad bacteria and the probiotic will put the good kind back into your body.

Most people think of acne as something that develops on their face or back, but acne can also form on the scalp. It can also be very painful. Sonny has written an informative article about Scalp Acne below. I hope that you find it useful.

Scalp Acne – A Painful Condition

Scalp acne is common in both men and women and it affects the people of all ages. It is also caused by certain micro-organisms like mites, bacteria and yeasts. This type of acne is treated in the same manner as the acne on face. It is the type that shows up on the scalp and near the hairline. It is identified by little pustules inside the scalp that are extremely itchy and usually very annoying on the front side of the hairline. It’s not as common as some of the other types of acne such as facial acne but it is still very distressing for the sufferer. It is a skin inflammatory disorder of the scalp’s hair follicles and is acquired due to the inflammation in the sebaceous glands and follicles of the hair because of the production of oil.

Acne control can be achieved by acne sufferers despite their age. Acne is a dreaded skin condition that plagues both teens and adults alike. It doesn’t just hurt on the outside; it hurts on the inside too. It can appear on other parts of the body as well, but unless you’re someone with acne in one of these ‘other’ areas, you may not have realized this. Acne on the scalp can be very common however it is generally a different type of condition than what occurs on the face and back.

Some people have many pustules on the hairline and some have few depending on the skin type. Some topical antibiotics used include clindamycin and erythromycin which can sometimes lead to dryness of the skin.

Severe forms of scalp acne must be treated only under dermatologist surveillance. People with nodules or cysts should also be treated by a dermatologist. Severe cases that continue to reoccur may need to be treated by performing laser removal on the infected follicle or follicles. Severe Forms of this form of acne are rare, but they are a great hardship to the people who experience them, and can be disfiguring–and, like all forms of acne, can have psychological effects on the sufferer.

Severe forms of this acne are usually black in color and appear over the entire scalp region covered with hair.

Treatment for mild scalp pimples can be as easy as buying an over the counter medication such as salicylic acid which will be applied with a cotton ball or wool. The mild form of this type of acne can be treated the way most other acne is treated.

Treatment of scalp acne is important so they don’t leave pock type scars.
Hair care products designed especially to treat seborrhea have also been used successfully.

Benzoyl peroxide is one of the most ideal medications for acne and has been one of the acne treaments of choice for quite some time. This medication comes both as a solution and as a cream. Benzoyl propels peroxide into the skin, releasing oxygen to kill anaerobic acne p bacteria.

Scalp acne isn’t as talked about as ‘regular’ facial and back acne. However, it is very distressing and usually develops as small white-yellowish pustules due to huge stress. This form of acne is known as acne necrotica miliaris, and seems to flourish during times of high stress or when the scalp is oilier than normal. This condition is acne that develops on the skin under your hair, also known as your scalp. It is scientifically known as scalp folliculitis, which is an inflammatory disorder of the hair follicles in the scalp. This condition isn’t as well known as “regular” acne, unless you have suffered with it.

Is cucumber a good tool to use to assist in the treatment of acne? The article below looks into that question. Personally I don’t think that it would help bad cases of acne too much, but it may assist small cases. What do you think?

Is Cucumber For Acne Really an Effective Acne Solution?

Many people relate cucumber with having a soothing effect if placed on the eyes to reduce puffiness or dark circles but many acne sufferers use it as an acne solution. As with most acne solutions, it’s down to experimenting to see if it is as effective for you as it is for others. Don’t let that put you off, it’s a cheap homemade natural solution so if it doesn’t work for you you haven’t wasted a small fortune on expensive products.

There are many benefits of cucumber for acne, this article will let you in on the secrets of cucumber, why its an effective acne solution for many people and then provide resources on how to make your own cucumber facial mask and other cucumber solutions so you can finally show off acne free clear skin!

1. One of the key properties of cucumber for acne is the cool soothing feeling it provides the skin. This helps to reduce red inflamed acne and is also effective if you have sun burn!

2. The water content of cucumber is over 90% so it’s a natural way of keeping the skin moisturised, toned and hydrated rather than having to apply over the counter moisturisers that can aggravate your skin.

3. Cucumber also has skin tightening properties. It cleanses the skin removing impurities and dead skin cells and tightens the pores leaving them smaller and less likely to become clogged.

4. As well as an acne solution cucumber also acts as an anti-aging solution at the same time. The amino acids and minerals contained in cucumber help preserve skin by firming and regenerating it. It has been claimed that cucumber is better at reducing wrinkles than most of the man made creams designed to do so. Even Cleopatra was said to have used cucumber juice to preserve her skin!

I have been rather lucky with respect to acne scars, as I did have rather bad acne but I have only a few rather unoticable scars. Unfortunately many acne sufferers do obtain ugly scars. The article below gives some insight into acne scars and with particular attention to old acne scars.

How Do I Get Rid of Old Acne Scars?

Having acne isn’t something anyone is happy with. What is even worse though is that for some individuals the signs of it linger long after it has gone away. This is in the form of acne scars. They can be very minimal or they can be very evident which will make a person self conscious most of the time.

How do Acne Scars Form?

Acne scars form after the breakouts have cleared up. Some individuals worry that they have scars right away. This is because they redness and indentions from acne can last for up to six months before they go away on their own. If the area remains that way for more than six months it should then be classified as a scar.

Sometimes too much new tissue forms around the area though and that too can result in scarring. So there has to be a balance because too much or too little of the tissue can increase your chances of scars remaining.

Types of Acne Scars

Acne scars are classified according to which category that your recovery fell into. Those that are caused by too much tissue are known as hypertrophic. Generally there is too much collagen being produced. Those caused by a loss of tissue are often smaller in both diameter and depth. They are often called ice pick scars due to the small indentations that they leave on the face .

Avoiding the Development of Acne Scars

It is important to remember that your face consists of live tissue. So when it is damaged due to the acne outbreaks it may not recover fully. Doing all you can to make sure it heals well is important. For example you need white blood cells for the live tissue to recover. Eating right will help you to continue to have enough of them in your body to avoid acne scars.

It is best to keep the skin clean and to pat it dry after washing it. Excessive rubbing can result in the skin becoming irritated. That can lead to the development of acne scarring as can squeezing and touching the inflamed area of skin. Do your best to treat the acne as soon as you can. The less severe that the outbreak is, the less likely you will end up with scars from it.

Tips to Remove Acne Scars

Should you find that acne scars do develop though they don’t have to be permanent. There are some ways in which you can reduce the look of them or complete remove them. It will depend on your skin type, the severity of the acne scars, and how long you have had them.

Avoid the various over the counter products that tell you they will eliminate them though. Instead you will need to look towards technology to help you. The use of a laser to stimulate the skin that has been scarred seems to be very effective. However, it is also expensive and it can take many sessions before you see results.

Injections of collagen into the skin as well as microabrasion work well for ice pick scars. These methods also require several treatments over the course of time before you will see results. For more severe types of acne scars skin surgery or grafting may be necessary.

How do I Know Which Treatment is Right for Me?

Since there are many issues that have to be addressed, you should have a professional decide which treatment options will work best for you. A dermatologist who specializes in skin can do this for you. In most instances you should be able to get a free consultation about the remove of old acne scars. Make sure you get at least two different opinions though before you make a final decision.

There are many posts telling acne sufferers what remedies to take, but this post tells you what not to do when you suffer from acne.

The 1st one mentioned “do not touch your face” can sometimes be blamed for the types of food affecting acne. I remember thinking that peanuts would make my acne worse, but in reality it was the oil from the peanuts present on my hands which then went onto my face. To make matters worse, many acne sufferers put their hands on their face to hide their acne.

Suffering From Acne? 5 Things You Shouldn’t Do

You may be well aware of so many techniques as well as countless concoctions that help prevent acne development. However, some of your most common practices may actually be detrimental in your quest for flawless young skin. Since there are different skin types, it is also important to specifically target problem areas with proper preventive measures. Here are some taboos.

1. Do Not Touch Your Face

Always keep your hands to yourself. As much as possible avoid unnecessary touching or wash your hands thoroughly with mild soap and water before attending to your face. Although it is a myth that certain foods like chocolate can cause pimples, your hands can harbor a lot of bacteria, oils and grease that tend to clog up your pores. Wear cotton gloves if you have the tendency to keep touching your face unconsciously when you sleep.

Do not prick your pimples. Instead, use the proper techniques to drain and soothe itches properly. Make sure you bring a clean handkerchief or blotting paper when going out to wipe off sweat and excess oil. Make it a habit to wash your hands after each time you snack or play sports. Cut your fingernails regularly as well to reduce the amount of germs that may be transferred.

2. Do Not Use Too Many Products

Using too many products will increase the likelihood of reaction between substances. A combination of various cosmetics plus anti-acne solutions can also irritate sensitive skin so you may be better off using only 1 or 2 types of cleansers, 1 moisturizer, 1 toner and 1 astringent if your face is really oily. Look for hypoallergenic formulas or avoid alcohol-based products when it comes to masks, exfoliating creams, lotions and the like. Taking in some drugs or medications may also cause systemic and hormonal changes in your body resulting to unexpected outbreaks and unwanted zits. Always read the labels and assess possible side effects.

3. Do Not Treat Frequently

Washing your face too often will change the normal pH and increase the likelihood of bacteria and dead skin cells to accumulate and spread. The skin dries up too much to the point that it becomes dry or flaky. At best, wash your face 2 times daily or 3 times if you have oily skin. When using anti-acne products, be careful about the number of times you apply as well as the amount you put on. It is recommended that you apply a thin coat layer first then add a second coat later on if you need more when it comes to moisturizers and toners.

4. Do Not Scrub Too Hard

Avoid scrubbing your face too hard when washing or scratching your face unnecessarily. Friction can push dirt, dirt plugs and dead skin cells deeper into the pore making it harder for you to extract and treat. Frequent and hard scrubbing can also damage skin cells and tissues which can lead to permanent scars and large pores. Use the tips of your forefinger and middle finger when washing and gently but firmly apply cleansers, toners and moisturizers in rhythmic circular strokes on the problem areas.

Instead of rubbing your skin to dry, use a clean cotton towel to pat areas to avoid friction. Friction also applies to shaving and applying makeup. Be careful about sensitive pores and growing acne that may erupt at any time. Shave along the grain and use shaving cream to protect your skin from nicks and abrasions. It is also a rule to apply makeup gently and carefully.

5. Do Not Leave It All to Mother Nature

Healthy lifestyle habits will significantly improve the condition of your skin since you rid your body of toxins and balance hormones by relieving stress. Make it a habit to consume more nutritious foods rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber. Dietary supplementation particularly vitamin A, E and zinc can also help you reach your nutrition goals. Exercise regularly and do some form of meditation or breathing exercise 10 minutes everyday. Sleep at regular intervals and aim for 8 to 10 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night. Keep yourself protected from harmful elements as well by wearing sunscreen, hats, masks and drinking water all the time.
